Go Duck Duck Go!

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

In my search for nice tools that respect my privacy and my rights like don’t being tracked down and so on, I discovered Duck Duck Go.

From their about.html:

DuckDuckGo is a general purpose
search engine like Google or Bing.
• Get way more instant answers
Zero-click info above the links (red box).
• Less spam and clutter
We ban those useless sites with just ads.
• Lots and lots of goodies
Special searches (tech), syntax & settings.
• Real privacy
We don’t track you! (Illustrated guide.)

This search engine was built by Gabriel Weinberg in February 2008 and if you are curious about the architecture, you can have a look here.

It has everything you can expect from a search engine: there is a huge amount of goodies for the geek in you, a Firefox addon is available here, there are tools, plugins and add-ons waiting to be enjoyed!
There is the funny Let me DDG that for you! to have fun of a lazy friend. Click here to see an example.
You can also add DuckDuckGo search box into your web site.

Check out this page if you’re interested about the tracking topic.
Also, don’t forget to check out this page about bubbling.

Finally, if you like it, please help spread DuckDuckGo!

It’s been a while, now, since I started to use free software.
Now it’s time to give back. :)

E’ da un po’ di tempo, ormai, che uso software libero.
Ora è il momento di dare.
